City News and Community Events
The City of Sunny Isles Beach continues to foster a strong sense of community with recent events. Mayor Larisa Svechin reflected on a successful spring season, highlighting events like the city’s anniversary celebration and the Egg Scramble that brought many families together. [15] Another recent successful event was the second annual Poetry in the Park, which celebrated National Poetry Month at the end of April. [3] Looking ahead, the city has several community events scheduled. The Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, Gateway Center, and Pelican Community Park will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. [28] A free four week wellness series in partnership with Mount Sinai Medical Center is scheduled to begin on May 27. [28] With the 2026 hurricane season starting on June 1, a Community Drop in Session focused on Hurricane Preparedness is scheduled for June 3. Major Real Estate Developments
The skyline of Sunny Isles Beach is set for a dramatic change with the city commission’s approval of a new 62 story oceanfront condominium tower at 19051 Collins Avenue. [17] This new development, a partnership between The Related Group, Dezer Development, and BH Group, is planned to be approximately 820 feet tall, which would make it the tallest building in Sunny Isles Beach upon completion. [17, 25] The project will replace the existing Miami Beach Club, a two story residential building from 1951. [17] The new tower is designed by Cohen Freedman Encinosa & Associates Architects and will feature 145 luxury residences, ranging from three to six bedrooms, including full floor penthouses. [17, 26] The development is part of a larger trend of luxury branded residences shaping the city, with other major projects like the Bentley Residences and the St. Regis Residences also targeting completion around 2026. [24] These developments contribute to a real estate market that has seen rising prices in 2026, driven by limited supply and a shift towards Sunny Isles Beach becoming a primary residence destination. In local law enforcement news, the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department recently released video and dispatch audio from a traffic stop that led to an arrest on Collins Avenue.
