City Events and Traffic Updates
The City of Sunny Isles Beach invites residents to a Family Movie Night featuring ‘The Super Mario Galaxy’ at Gateway Park tonight, August 22, 2026. Families are encouraged to bring blankets for an evening of adventure under the stars. Tomorrow, August 23, the city will host a Bike Helmet Giveaway for school aged children at the Government Center. Residents should be aware of several ongoing traffic and sidewalk closures. A southbound lane and sidewalk on the 15800 block of Collins Avenue will be closed daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through August 31. Additionally, a sidewalk is closed at 19370 Collins Avenue until August 31, 2026. These closures are part of various improvement projects underway in the city. The city continues its focus on public safety, reminding residents of back to school safety precautions.
Real Estate and Construction Updates
Sunny Isles Beach’s skyline is set for another major addition after the City Commission approved a new 62 story oceanfront condominium tower at 19051 Collins Avenue. This development joins other ultra luxury projects like the St. Regis Residences and the Bentley Residences, which is slated to become the city’s tallest building. The real estate market in the area is showing a distinct split. The pre construction market remains robust, driven by the scarcity of oceanfront lots. In contrast, the resale market for luxury condos is seeing adjustments, with a recent report indicating a decrease in the median sale price for homes over the last three months compared to the previous year. Completed luxury properties are trading between approximately $1,200 and $2,200 per square foot, and negotiation has returned to the resale market, with days on market for luxury condos being the longest among comparable Miami submarkets.
Beach and Ocean Conditions
Beachgoers in Sunny Isles Beach can expect warm conditions today. As of the latest reports, the ocean water temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 Celsius). The Sunny Isles Beach Ocean Rescue has posted green flags, indicating calm conditions. However, caution is still advised due to moderate surf or currents, and a heat advisory is in effect with heat index values potentially reaching up to 112. The wind is coming from the southeast at about 10 miles per hour. Observers have noted that significant amounts of sargassum offshore may wash ashore. Low tide is expected around 1:11 PM today.
Father Arrested in Child Neglect Case
A 63 year old father was arrested for child neglect this week after his four year old son was found wandering alone on Collins Avenue. According to the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department, an officer was alerted by a driver who saw the small child walking by himself near the 17200 block of Collins Avenue carrying a slice of pizza. The child, who had visible redness on his face, was estimated to have been alone for about an hour. The father, Semyon Levin, was taken into custody and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Investigators noted that the father had opportunities to alert law enforcement but failed to do so until he encountered an officer in his apartment building’s lobby. This incident marks the second case of child neglect in the same area in recent days, following the arrest of a Texas mother who left her six year old son unattended at Town Center Park.
