City Focuses on Budget and Community Safety
The City of Sunny Isles Beach is actively shaping its future with a focus on fiscal responsibility and public safety. A recent City Commission Workshop was held on August 26, 2026, to provide a public review of the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 to 2027 budget. Mayor Larisa Svechin has indicated that the proposed budget includes a reduction in the operating millage rate, which if approved, would maintain Sunny Isles Beach as having the lowest municipal millage rate in Miami Dade County. The budget also allocates funding for additional police officers to enhance public safety services. In a direct move to improve traffic safety, the city will begin issuing photo enforced parking citations by mail for violations at the public parking lot on 175 Terrace. The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department is also participating in the Florida Department of Transportation’s High Visibility Enforcement Program to reduce traffic related injuries. Residents can look forward to community events, including an End of Summer Bash with a Hawaiian Luau on August 28.
Skyline Transformation with Luxury Real Estate Developments
The skyline of Sunny Isles Beach is undergoing a dramatic transformation with several ultra luxury condominium projects making significant progress. Construction on the 62 story Bentley Residences has now surpassed the seventh level and is rising steadily. This iconic tower is poised to become the city’s tallest building upon completion. Another monumental project, the dual tower St. Regis Residences, has also seen major construction milestones, with the foundation pour for the south tower completed. Vertical construction is now underway for the south tower. The City Commission has also recently approved a new 62 story oceanfront condominium tower, further cementing the city’s reputation as a premier destination for luxury living. While the preconstruction market remains robust, driven by the limited availability of oceanfront land, the resale market for existing condominiums is showing signs of a shift, with some reports indicating a buyer’s market. The median sale price for homes has seen a decrease compared to the previous year.
Ideal Beach and Ocean Conditions
Beachgoers in Sunny Isles Beach can enjoy excellent conditions. The Ocean Rescue division has reported green flags, indicating calm and safe swimming conditions. The water temperature is a warm 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius). The surf is calm, presenting a low hazard for swimmers. Water quality is also reported as good and safe for swimming, with recent tests showing low levels of bacteria. However, swimmers should remain aware of their surroundings, as a jellyfish advisory has been mentioned for the area. The UV index remains very high, so sun protection is strongly recommended.
Public Safety and Community Updates
In recent community safety news, there have been two separate incidents involving child neglect that led to the arrests of parents in Sunny Isles Beach. In one case, a mother was arrested after allegedly leaving her six year old child unattended at a park. These incidents have raised concerns about child safety and supervision in public areas. The city is also continuing with various infrastructure improvements, which has resulted in some temporary lane and sidewalk closures. There is a southbound lane and sidewalk closure on the 15800 block of Collins Avenue and a sidewalk closure at 19370 Collins Avenue, both extending through August 31. A major S.R. A1A/Collins Avenue Roadway Improvement Project is also in progress.
