Sunny Isles Beach Advances Public Safety with New Drone Program - September 14, 2024

City Enhances Public Safety and Infrastructure

The City of Sunny Isles Beach is taking a proactive approach to public safety with the implementation of a new Drone as First Responder (DFR) program. This initiative, in partnership with Skydio and Axon, makes the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department the first law enforcement agency in Florida to have a fully operational, non beta DFR program. The drones are intended to provide real time situational awareness to responding officers. In addition to technological advancements, the city is also focused on infrastructure improvements. Several capital projects are underway, including the construction of the Intracoastal Sports Park, which will feature a multi use court, a tennis court, and restrooms for residents. The Collins Avenue Undergrounding project is also progressing, with crews working on secondary line connections in Central Island. Residents should also be aware of a few park and beach access closures. The Regalia Beach Access at 19575 Collins Avenue is closed until further notice due to beach erosion. Bella Vista Bay Park is also closed for renovations, and the playground at Samson Oceanfront Park is partially closed for repairs.

Real Estate and Construction Continue to Shape the City

The skyline of Sunny Isles Beach continues to evolve with significant construction projects. A major milestone was recently achieved with the successful completion of a continuous 8,400 cubic yard mat foundation placement for the future St. Regis Residences. This complex operation required the coordination of approximately 1,000 ready mix truck deliveries from four different plants. The real estate market in Sunny Isles Beach remains active. Recent data indicates that it is a seller’s market, with more buyers than available homes. The median home price in July 2026 was $612,950, and homes are selling faster than they were last year.

Beach and Ocean Conditions

For those looking to enjoy the beautiful coastline, it is important to be aware of the current beach and ocean conditions. Today, the flags on the beach are green and purple, indicating calm waters but the presence of jellyfish. The air temperature is a pleasant 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius), and the water temperature is 83 degrees Fahrenheit (28 degrees Celsius). The UV index is high at 7, so sun protection is strongly advised. The surf is currently very small with minor wind chop. High tides for today are at 10:30 AM and 10:40 PM, with a low tide at 4:38 PM.
