Sunny Isles Beach Enforces New E-Bike Regulations - July 22, 2026

New E-Bike Ordinance Takes Center Stage

The City of Sunny Isles Beach is highlighting a recently adopted ordinance that will regulate the use of electric bicycles, or e-bikes, within city limits. Starting August 16, riders must be at least 16 years old to operate an e-bike. The new rules also mandate that all e-bike operators carry a valid government issued photo ID. In a significant move to enhance pedestrian safety, e-bikes will be prohibited from being used on sidewalks. The Sunny Isles Beach Police Department has stated that these machines can reach speeds of up to 28 miles per hour and should be treated as vehicles. Officials have expressed concerns over a number of preventable accidents, some of which have been fatal in South Florida. Enforcement of the new ordinance will begin on August 16, with the first violation carrying a fine of $250, and subsequent violations costing $500. The city also has several community events planned, including a Concert in the Park tonight, July 22, and Full Moon Yoga on the Beach on July 29. Residents should also be aware of an ongoing sidewalk closure on Atlantic Boulevard for those traveling between 187th and 189th streets, which will be in effect until August 7.

Luxury Real Estate Market Continues to Thrive

The skyline of Sunny Isles Beach continues its transformation with several high profile luxury residential projects under construction. The Bentley Residences, a new tower that will feature an in unit car elevator system, is progressing towards its expected completion in late 2026 or early 2027. This development is part of a larger trend of branded luxury properties in the area. The ultra luxury market remains strong, as evidenced by the recent sale of a six bedroom condominium at the Estates at Acqualina for $21.6 million. This transaction underscores the continued high demand for premium real estate in the city. While new construction commands attention, the broader market for existing properties is seeing an increase in inventory, which may provide more options for prospective buyers. The approval of a new 62 story tower, which will be the tallest in the area, signals strong developer confidence in the future of the city’s luxury real estate sector.

The UV index is very high at 10, so beach patrons are advised to take necessary sun precautions. Winds are coming from the southeast at 10 to 15 miles per hour. The sea is generally calm and suitable for swimming, with wave heights not expected to exceed three feet. Today’s low tides are at 8:30 AM and 9:03 PM, with a high tide at 2:58 PM.
