Sunny Isles Beach Skyline Transforms with Major Developments as Hurricane Season Begins - June 02, 2024

City Focuses on Hurricane Preparedness and Scooter Safety

As the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season officially commenced on June 1, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is proactively encouraging residents to prepare. A Community Drop in Session on Hurricane Preparedness is scheduled for tomorrow, June 3, 2024. This important event will provide residents with vital information and an opportunity to ask questions directly to emergency management officials. The city’s website provides numerous resources for residents to get ready, as the entirety of Sunny Isles Beach is located in Storm Surge Planning Zone B, which is at risk for storm surge from a category 2 hurricane or higher.

Also beginning June 1, the city started enforcing a new ordinance regarding motorized scooters. Riders must now be at least 16 years old and carry a government issued ID. This safety measure was adopted after a citywide survey and public feedback, with the goal of prioritizing pedestrian safety. Fines will be issued for violations.

Skyline to be Redefined by Major Real Estate and Construction Projects

Sunny Isles Beach is in the midst of a significant construction boom that will dramatically reshape its skyline. The city commission has approved several major high rise projects. Among them is the Miami Beach Club, a 62 story condominium that will become the tallest building in the city. Additionally, the two tower St. Regis Residences are approved, adding another landmark to the coastline.

Construction is visibly progressing on the ultra luxurious Bentley Residences, which has now reached its seventh level. This 62 story tower, with an expected completion in 2028, is a significant project by Dezer Development, who also recently proposed a large three building mixed use project in nearby North Miami. In hospitality news, the Solé Miami, a 249 room oceanfront hotel, was recently sold to South Street Partners. The new owners have announced plans for substantial upgrades to the property, signaling strong investor confidence in the local market.

Beach and Ocean Conditions

Beachgoers in Sunny Isles Beach can enjoy the beautiful coastline with generally favorable conditions. The water temperature is a warm 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with an air temperature of 90 degrees. Green and purple flags are flying, indicating calm waters but the presence of marine pests. A jellyfish advisory is currently in effect, so swimmers should exercise caution. Winds are from the southwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour. The surf is reported to be flat. High tides for today are at 9:29 AM and 10:11 PM, with a low tide at 3:42 PM.
